chatGPT Founder Launches Iris Scanning Globe To Distinguish Humans From AI In Cryptocurrency World

New cryptocurrency ‘worldcoin’ requires ‘the orb’

Sam Altman, co-creator of Chat GPT and OpenAI, Alex Blania, co-founder of Tools for Humanity, and Max Novendstern, co-founder of Worldcoin, present their cryptocurrency Worldcoin using a steel eyeball with camera sensors called Orbs to detect humans from artificial intelligence and robots. Transacting in the so-called democratized crypto world can lead to the risk of people mimicking other people’s accounts, biometrics and faces, making the user vulnerable to attacks and hacks, so Worldcoin offers the Orb which uses multispectral sensors to check whether the user is a real human or not.

The custom biometric imaging device built for the Worldcoin project scans people’s irises to check if they are real human beings. It is easy to hold as it fits in the palm and resembles a Magic 8 Ball without shaking. Up close, the steel eyeball has two camera sensors and a camera, and the cryptocurrency team says the camera is equipped with an electromagnetic spectrum to distinguish between fraudulent spoofing attempts and legitimate human interactions with a high degree of accuracy.

In the last six months of its beta phase, the World currency verified the uniqueness and humanity of more than 40,000 individuals a week. The number raises demand for the Orb to further help interested cryptocurrency fans gain access to their unique ID. The technical team shares that the biometric device is and will be available in more than 35 cities in more than 20 countries on five continents. They will continue to ramp up delivery through the end of 2023, aiming to increase the number of Orbs available to 1,500 units throughout the summer and fall of 2023 in more than 35 cities around the world.

Every time the user goes to Worldcoin and creates a transaction, they have to do it again as the Orb erases all the user’s iris images by default, but only remembers their biometrics. Sam Altman and Alex Blania opt for the iris as they say it’s harder to change than fingerprints. “Modifying fingerprints across cuts is easy, while accurately imaging them can be difficult, as the ridges and valleys can fade over time,” they say. “Therefore, based on the outlined trade-offs of different biometric modalities, iris recognition is the only one suitable for global uniqueness verification in the context of the Worldcoin project.”

How does Worldcoin cryptocurrency work?

Worldcoin is a new member of the cryptocurrency world that seems to take pride in being a privacy-preserving global identity network. Its system revolves around the World ID which users use to prove they are real humans while using the app and everything related to it. This unique ID allows users to airdrop fairly, provides protection against bots and sybil attacks on social media, and allows for more equitable distribution of limited resources. Worldcoin claims that World ID can also enable global democratic processes and new forms of governance such as through quadratic voting, and could eventually support a path to an AI-funded universal basic income.

Cryptocurrency fans should first download World App, the first wallet software that facilitates the formation of a World ID, in order to participate in the Worldcoin system. People then tie their Orb knotted to get their World ID Orb verified. After scanning their iris, an Orb Operator, operating under a network of independent local businesses, will verify it and give the user the green light after the process. Once the user passes all the steps, he will be able to access the Worldcoin token, the first digital currency to be distributed free to people just for being a unique human being.

‘In the age of artificial intelligence, the need for personality proof is no longer a topic of serious debate; instead, the crucial question is whether or not the personality testing solutions we have can be privacy-focused, decentralized and maximally inclusive,’ says Alex Blania. “Through its unique technology, Worldcoin aims to provide anyone in the world, regardless of background, geography or income, with access to the growing digital and global economy in a decentralized and privacy-preserving manner.”
