Introduction

Google has developed a cloud service called Google Drive. In order to store their files online, users can store them on Google Drive. Placing files on Google Drive is convenient for many users because it eliminates the worry of losing portable hard drives.
Google created Google Drive, a service for storing and synchronizing files. Google Drive was released on April 24, 2012, and it lets users share, synchronize, and store files on Google’s servers in the cloud. Users can share up to 15 GB of free storage on Google Drive with Gmail and Google Photos. Google Drive additionally provides 100 GB, 200 GB, and 2 TB via Google One paid plans that are optional. Uploads may contain files up to 750 GB in size. Individual files and folders can have their privacy settings changed by users, allowing them to share content with other users or making it public. Users can use natural language to locate specific files on the website by doing searches like “find my budget spreadsheet from last December” or by describing an image.

Save to Google Drive is an official Chrome extension that lets users save web content to their Google Drive via a context menu or their browser.
Google Drive used to have desktop applications for Windows and macos, but support for those was discontinued in May 2018. Then, users could sync copies of locally stored files to the cloud using a desktop application named Backup and Sync. Drive File Stream, a Windows and macos tool that stored files online and stopped users from storing critical company data on their hard drives, was another option available to business users. As of the time of publishing, the feature-rich Drive for Desktop app included all of these functions.
Users are able to store, share, and view files using the Google Drive mobile apps for IOS and Android. However, users need to use the distinct Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps in order to create and edit files.

Google currently provides 15 gigabytes of storage for free and more at discounted rates: 100 GB for $1.99, 200 GB for $2.99, and 2 TB for $19.99 per month. Higher amounts may be available with additional storage plans for a higher monthly cost.
Every month at the end of the Drive subscription period, Google automatically renews users’ accounts. If this doesn’t work, users have seven days to update their payment details. A user’s account will revert to the free 15 GB storage tier if they cancel their subscription or let it expire.

The enterprise version of Google Drive, known as Google Drive for Work, was launched in June 2014 and is currently a part of Google Workspace. It provides more administrative controls for IT managers, limitless storage, APIs to link to an organization’s current business applications, and extra technical assistance from Google.

Security of Google Drive

Data from Google Drive is encrypted using the Transport Layer Security protocol before it is uploaded to Google’s cloud from the user’s device. When the data gets to Google, it is decrypted again using 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). An additional degree of protection is provided by the encryption of the AES encryption keys. Under certain circumstances, Google Drive complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and supports two-factor authentication.
