Digital media investment firm, Dimensional Associates, buys controlling interests and recapitalizes MetaMedia for next phase of network and content expansion

LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — MetaMedia today announced a significant strategic investment by Dimensional Associates, which will lead the next phase of MetaMedia’s mission to provide theaters, film studios and other content producers with a global cloud-based entertainment network that delivers cost savings, operational efficiencies, access to expanded content and additional revenue opportunities.

Dimensional Associates is the private equity arm of JDS Capital and is an owner/operator of companies at the intersection of media and technology. Its executives bring considerable experience in the distribution of content on the Internet. This capital infusion allows MetaMedia to complete the rollout of its network to its cinema partners who collectively represent more than a quarter of U.S. and Canadian theaters, including Cinemark Theaters, Cinpolis, Marcus Theaters, B&B Theaters, Emagine Entertainment, Landmark Cinemas, CGV Cinemas, Fridley Theaters, Premiere Cinemas, Southern Theaters, TCL Chinese Theatre, CW Theaters and members of the Independent Cinema Alliance. Currently, MetaMedia’s network offers premium movies, live events and commercials to 400 theaters reaching more than 5,000 screens in most major cities across the United States and Canada. Dimensional Associates’ investment will allow MetaMedia network to expand to 2,000 additional theaters in the U.S. and Canadaand finally, reaching cinemas internationally.

Danny Stein, CEO of Dimensional Associates, has joined MetaMedia as executive president. Stein brings extensive experience in digital distribution, having represented Dimensional as the principal shareholder and executive chairman of The Orchard from 2003 to 2014 before the company was purchased by Sony Music Entertainment. The Orchard also had a film and television distribution business and a global commercial distribution platform for independent film and television content creators. In 2015-2016, Stein was senior vice president of growth investments at MacAndrews and Forbes, the holding company that previously owned and operated Deluxe Entertainment Group, a wholly owned subsidiary where Stein served as president of Deluxe New Media, overseeing global business development, strategy and innovation.

MetaMedia’s platform creates a last mile managed broadband connection for theaters that reduces turnaround times and removes hundreds of millions of expenses for movie owners and studios. The platform offers material and measurable environmental benefits over traditional delivery methods, while providing the best intellectual property protection. MetaMedia’s platform is even more cost-effective for smaller, more focused theatrical releases or platform releases from independent or international studios. In 2022, MetaMedia delivered more than 350 movies to theaters across its network, saving content producers and theaters millions of dollars.

“We are at a watershed moment in filmmaking, where broadband and the cloud have proven to benefit theaters and premium content producers, expanding box office opportunities and providing huge cost and operational savings, in much the same way these technologies have been used by Netflix, Disney and other content streamers in the home,” said MetaMedia founder and CEO. Jason Brenk. “I am delighted that Dimensional will help realize MetaMedia’s vision and that Danny will join MetaMedia as executive president to augment MetaMedia’s current leadership team, who will remain with the company and who collectively have more experience than anyone delivering live and pre-recorded premium content over the Internet to entertainment venues worldwide. North America.”

MetaMedia has also enabled new and varied marketing and revenue generation opportunities for its studio and film partners by enabling expanded programming choices, new film content formats, and improved release targeting. In addition to providing feature films, the MetaMedia network has exclusively released to theaters NCAA College Football Playoffs and ESPN’s 2023 National Championships, multiple Activision/Blizzard esports tournaments, concerts by BTS, Coldplay, Garth BrooksMetallica and others, and produced live events for fans, including Q&A sessions with celebrities and content creators to help promote upcoming content releases.
